Smart cities are being promoted as a national-led industrial strategy in many countries, and Korea also has selected smart city as one of the future growth engines. However, projects included in the currently promoted smart city are mainly ICT projects for urban management efficiency and resident convenience services. So most of smart city projects are far from construction projects. The construction industry remains in the role of traditional builders, including the role of building urban infrastructure and infrastructure related to the creation of new smart cities. At this stage, the construction industry is not the core player of smart cities. However, considering the ultimate purpose of smarting spatial services, the role of the construction industry will inevitably increase in the future. First of all, participation in smart city projects should be expanded in connection with private cooperation projects or urban renewal projects. And from a long-term perspective, it is necessary to create a new business model through convergence and linkage with other industries.
