This study aims to establish the concept of digital transformation, which is the foundation of the construction industry, and examine the current status of digitalization in the construction industry in Korea to examine the current development direction.
- The construction industry achieved this because of low productivity compared to other industries, despite many efforts for digitalization. Therefore, it is necessary to find the cause of it and to improve it at the same time.
- Examining the concept of digital transformation that can move far, and looking at the direction from which digital transformation should be implemented in the construction industry.
● Digital conversion is the reopening of digitization of analog information, generally divided into three levels of digitization as follows.
- Information digitization: Digitization of existing analog materials and contents, which can be divided into two stages. Stage 1 is a 'simple digitization' stage in which existing paper-based drawings are digitized with CAD (digitization of only the shape), The second stage is the 'analyzable digitization' stage that includes not only the shape of the drawing but also the information of the facility to be implemented, like BIM.
- Business digitization (Digitalization): Corresponds to the digitization stage in which the existing business system is changed as data or information is digitized, and new business scope, organization, and process are applied. When a digitized system that integrates business is introduced, redundant or unnecessary processes can be removed and the most efficient business process can be converted, so business innovation through digitalization corresponds to this.
- Digital Transformation: It corresponds to the stage of realizing a new business model beyond the existing business area through digitalization.
● In the case of Korea's general construction companies, the level of digitization seems to be almost the same up to the 30th place, and it appears to be at a very low level below the 31st place.
- Most of the top 10 companies use BIM, have MIS and PMIS, and partially apply smart construction technologies such as RFID, biometric technology, drones, 3D scanners, smart sensors, and virtual reality.
- About half of the companies in the 11th to 30th ranks use BIM, many do not have PMIS, and some use smart construction technology.
- 70% of the companies ranked below the 31st rank use general-purpose software such as Excel, and less than 20% use ERP or PMIS. appear to be
● In the future, along with information digitization and work digitization, standardize construction information and systematize work according to each stage of digital transformation to derive a direction for productivity innovation based on digital technology, and furthermore, create new business areas based on digital platforms for each company. It is necessary to have an open and creative mindset that can derive a direction for
